I gave up my SoCo address and turned in my “hipster” card (which was already expired, trust me!) back in 2007. I’ve been living in the Texas Hill Country since then and it’s an amazing place to call home.
For over a year I’ve been writing for Lake Travis Lifestyle, a nifty online resource about happenings in the Lake Travis area. I contribute original articles on a weekly basis and it is so exciting (and meaningful) to feature all of the great businesses, people, organizations, restaurants and shops that make up this growing community.
The hardest part of this job is staying focused on one topic, because something new pops up every day. I hop from hotel openings like the Sonesta Hotel Bee Cave opening this summer to awesome college athletes like Samaje Perine to the best patios with the most glorious views. Whew! That doesn’t even include the live music scene, restaurants, shops and giveaways.
My favorite articles are part of our Live Local Series where I get to do Q&As with local notables:
Wendi Aarons – I met Wendi many years ago when I auditioned for the Listen to Your Mother Show in Austin. I made it — shocking! — and got to know Wendi. What a smart and funny woman! She’s the kind of LOL funny where it catches you off-guard and you literally spit your coffee on your Mac keyboard and your Old Navy tank top.
Holly Mills-Gardner – Holly has been a friend and neighbor for many years and when I worked in the event production biz, she was my go-to gal. Holly can stand up in front of a huge audience with a crappy script (because I wrote it!) and work emcee miracles. She also has insanely perfect mermaid hair that should have its own Twitter account, because it’s so perfect. And it would have more followers than me…
Heather Campbell-Green – All hail the “original” celebrity style guide. While I was researching for this article, I got stuck on Heather’s website (Celebrity Style Guide) for hours. My brain melted in a celeb-inspired who-wore-what-and-where-can-I-buy-it loop and it was awesome. I had to go to rehab, but I’m better now. And no, I cannot tell you what Gabrielle Union’s SUNO dress looked like. Or can I?
Jenny Cokins – This is another fabulous gal with a serious eye for interior design. I’ve been in a few of the homes Jenny has decorated and they are flawless. And these people have kids and pets and yet….absolute flawlessness. (It’s annoying.) Jenny is a very intelligent and witty mom and entrepreneur who designs homes from Austin to Chicago. She rocks.
If you live in Bee Cave, Lakeway, Steiner Ranch, Spicewood and the surrounding Hill Country, you must check out Lake Travis Lifestyle. And by all means, look for my byline and smiling face.
