Bing Books: Bingo! Bongo! Brilliant!

My youngest son got another goodie for Christmas, his first Bing Bunny book. This is a beautifully illustrated delight called Bing: Make Music. Bing and his friends use a variety of household items to explore music, just like my son. The author, Ted Dewan, has won many awards in the UK. If you haven’t seen these books, you must check them out. Available at Amazon. It’s a Bing Thing!

Joovy Caboose: A Stroller for Two

It’s hard to go shopping with a baby and a toddler. Not for the obvious long list of reasons, but simply because you can’t seem to haul them around successfully in one compact double stroller. Me? I did not want to buy a tandem stroller - or tantrum stroller, as I like to call it. They just seemed too big. I wanted to stroll through the Steve Madden store without knocking over every neatly displayed wedge sandal in my vicinity. (Salespeople love that, by the way.) Then I met the Caboose and it changed my mind.

We bought the Joovy Caboose Stand-On Stroller in May 2008, and it’s the perfect stroller solution! We put the baby in the front seat and my toddler stands or sits on the back. (You get a car seat adapter that pops on, so you can secure an infant car seat right on the stroller!) An older baby can sit up straight or recline a bit, thanks to the two seat position options. It’s easy to maneuver, even in a small turning radius. The sun canopy works really well, even though it doesn’t look that big in person. I also love the color options. The storage basket under the seat isn’t super-duper easy to access, but it does accommodate a small to medium sized purse or diaper bag.

Your older child can sit on the back when feeling tired and stand for a more exciting ride. In fact, we went trick-or-treating with the Caboose this year and it was great.

The Joovy Caboose Ultralight Stand-On is a newer version with some extra features.

Babble Tells the Truth About Parenting

I’ve been to lots and lots of parenting sites. Honestly, I haven’t been very impressed. Some of them are too informational and boring, while others are way too cute and cuddly - or worse, opinionated and aloof. When I stumbled across Babble a few months ago, I was relieved and thoroughly entertained. Finally! Parents who are crazy like me.

Babble, the magazine and community for a new generation of parents, is full of clever and insightful commentary. The blogs are great. Strollerderby is the mother of all parenting blogs, FameCrawler is your daily celebrity baby fix and Droolicious offers modern design for modern parents.

I’m happy to report that I’m writing about baby products for Droolicious now. I’d love it if you’d come along for the ride. I know my readers are the best in the world, so I’m looking forward to your support. Don’t worry, MommyQ will continue to blog about all things baby here too. Here are some recent posts. Enjoy!

A Stroller for Every Season? Brilliant!

Maclaren recently introduced its new 4 Seasons stroller and quite frankly, I think it’s a brilliant concept.  It is a complete buggy set that includes 3 reversible seat liners, footmuff, reversible blanket, rain cover and storage bag to coordinate with all four seasons. Nothing else comes close to offering all these accessories in one package.

The Fall, Spring and Summer liners are gender neutral and give parents a quick solution for boredom. Look, you have no idea how much joy a new seat liner brings unless you’re a mom. Trust me, it’s way more exciting to see a new pattern on the stroller seat than you think. Not to mention, it’s a great way to extend the life of your stroller because you won’t be wearing out one liner. Just like flipping the sofa cushions.

If you’re in the market for a stroller, this is an ideal option. It’s loaded with exceptional features and is suitable from birth to 55 lbs. It might actually be the only stroller you’ll ever need. For $425, that’s an incredible deal. Trust me and the four strollers sitting in my garage…

One Day My Babies Will Be Men

Earlier this week I had lunch with a dear friend, who happens to be 20 years older than I am. She has a son who is 22-years-old. (My boys are 4-years-old and 1-year-old.) She is completely beside herself because her son wants to drop out of college with one year left to go. Her son is dating a girl that might not be right for him and he’s working as a waiter and……

My mind wandered. Holy crap! I can’t even imagine a life without diapers. How in the world will I manage as a mom of two GROWN MEN? (Heart rate increasing. Stress surging through body.) They will have to look both ways before crossing the street without me there to remind them. They will have to decipher when it’s okay to speak to a stranger and when it’s not. They will have to learn how to take care of themselves and make sure they don’t walk around reeking of BO. They will have to figure out how to date women and live with a broken heart. (Feeling dizzy. Scanning room for wine or chocolate.)

I’m not ready! Which begs the question, will I ever be ready? My stress revolves around who needs a snack, who took a nap, who needs bigger pajamas and who hasn’t pooped yet today. It’s baby stuff in a baby life.

Adult stuff in an adult life seems way too scary to handle. I’m stressed out with babies. Will I simply go insane as they get older? Should I just plan on committing myself to a padded room when they turn 17? I like to think of myself as a cool mom who freaks out when necessary, but never resorts to micro-parenting. Will I most certainly lose my cool and become that overbearing worried mom that my boys will roll their eyes at when I try to “have a moment” with them? Or beg for a hug. Wow, begging for affection. Will my world of constant little hugs, baby tooth smiles, mouse noses, and “I wuv you, mommy” come crashing down?

Never mind. I’m pretty sure I know the answer. Tell MommyQ what you think.
