Navigating the Wild World of Motherhood

  • stewie

As you know, toddlers talk A LOT. And they are funny! No, he’s not as well-spoken or as diabolical as Stewie – thank goodness. In addition to  “please” and “thank you” and “you’re welcome,” we’ve been hearing some other amusing responses to our questions and comments.  Here’s my Top 10 List:

    1. – “Mine!”

    2. – “Me too!”

    3. – “I want sumpin’ else.”

    4. – “No, I hold it.”

    5. – “Mama, get me more juice? More juice? Juicy? Juice?”

    6. – “No, I busy right now.”

    7. – “In a minute.”

    8. – “I all done.”

    9. – “Mommy? Mama? Mom? M-O-M?  Dada? Daddy? Dad?”

    10. – “I wanna wear racin’ shirt.”

What are the funny little phrases you hear from your kidlet constantly?

I was watching the Real Housewives of the OC reunion show last week, and evidently Gretchen Rossi’s hair is a big deal. I think she always looks pretty (and she is my favorite housewife!), but I never really noticed her hair. During the show they talk about how many viewers are in luuuv with her hairdo. (Scroll down to the comments to see what I mean.)

She says she doesn’t wear extensions and she achieves her look with big hot rollers. Hot rollers! Wow, I haven’t thought about those in forever. In fact, I haven’t owned hot rollers in about 10 years.

I certainly used them back in the day, but we all did. My friends with long hair would even sleep in foam rollers for the big, bouncy head of curls the next day. Out of curiosity, I checked out the hot rollers at CVS and chuckled. They haven’t changed much. This week, I’m going to check out what Target has and if they have the really big rollers, I might even indulge.

What about you? Are hot rollers still part of your beauty secret?

As you probably know, Sunday is the Golden Globe awards. I’m sure the Red Carpet coverage will last for six hours before the event, so everyone can see the stars strut their stuff and answer silly questions in a spontaneous manner. On to the good stuff…

Wanna know what’s in the Golden Globe goody bag this year? Well, the bag is worth $500. (Doesn’t that seem low? Maybe Hollywood isn’t recession-proof after all.)

    Hers:
    - A large Dooney & Bourke satchel
    - Euphoria perfume by Calvin Klein
    - L’Oreal cosmetics
    - InStyle’s book, “The New Secrets of Style”

    His:
    - Tumi duffle bag
    - Euphoria for men
    - A custom shirt by designer Alexander West
    - A style book for guys

The Presenters Lounge backstage is an entirely different story. The artwork alone is worth $3 million. Yes, $3 mil in a room for stars to apply more lip gloss. Or Botox – whatever.  Read more at People.

It’s official! MommyQ will be getting a makeover in 2010. Well, not really a makeover. It’s more like a bloggy face lift.

I’ve discovered that I have a variety of audiences who like different parts of my blog. Some of my mommy friends are all about the baby gear and children’s clothes, while others are only interested in the eco-friendly finds. And then there’s my favorite audience – the gossipmongers! Believe it or not, some of my readers just want to dish about celebs and indulge into my mommy musings. How fabulous!

You will no longer have to scroll and scroll and scroll. (Of course, you can just use the “search” box to find what you want.) Topics will be listed in nice little categories on the homepage. MommyQ is getting organized in ‘10.

I don’t know exactly when the makeover will take place, but I’ll keep you posted. If there are any topics you want to see more of or less of, now is the time to leave a comment!

    sweater-skirt

This season, Gymboree has a great black & white winter collection for kids. It features a bunch of traditional pieces with a twist, including lots of knits.

These clothes are on sale now. This is one of my favorites, the Snowflake Hooded Sweater Vest with the Pom Pom Sweater Skirt. Seriously, how cute is this? Shop Gymboree. The vest retails for $28 and the skirt retails for $24.

  • skechers-shape-ups

I know you can easily walk yourself thinner, but are you doing it by simply existing in Skechers Shape-Ups? If so, leave me a comment.

I’m sure you’ve seen the enticing ad, “Get a better butt and better legs with every step!” That’s what the Reebok EasyTone advertisement says. I’d say the EasyTone is just like the Shape-Ups. A weird looking show with magical powers. Perhaps. I know it looks like a very interesting concept.

Have you tried them? Don’t be shy. I know they sold a bunch of them during the holidays, so someone is wearing them at the grocery store right now. My main complaint is they are obviously different from a regular tennis shoe, even to non-fitness folks. Do you really want people to know you’re trying to improve your glutes while purchasing a bag of Galas or sipping your French Roast?

Let me know what you think.  I’d love to hear about your experience.

Do you get stressed out trying to find the perfect party favors? It’s not easy to find something with keepsake appeal that’s also cute and whimsical. Well, I’ve been admiring the party favors at Beau-coup Favors and this might be my favorite.

Each resin cupcake place card holder features white (faux) frosting with colorful sprinkles and a purple candle. Simply slip the matching place cards into the candle cardholder and serve! For a bigger surprise, remove the top of the cupcake to reveal a tea light within. Measures 3.5”W, 2.25” in diameter and sold in sets of four. Matching place cards are included.

Are these adorable or what? They are a bit pricey, but what the heck. Shop here!
